The Reality

I'm sure there are plenty of posts on here that give the illusion that I live the perfect life with the perfect children and perfect husband.  Well, that's because I like to focus/share the good and great things going on in our lives.  Here's the reality (I'll give you just a glimpse and you can fill in the blanks):   Matthew woke up at 5:30 this morning.  That is bad because he didn't fall asleep until almost 10:00 last night.  I think he was too excited to sleep because he lost his second tooth this week and was couldn't wait to see if the tooth fairy came.   So, the day started off with Matthew telling me over breakfast that his teacher moved him to a different table and now he's "girl trapped".  Then followed, "I'm not going to school and you can't make me."  I ignored this and went to get ready for the day.   Before I made it to the shower, Kennedy popped up and so did Hyrum.  Hyrum wanted carried downstairs with a blankie because he was cold.  Back down to the kitchen we went and I got the kids their nutritious bowl of cereal and headed back upstairs.  I made it into the shower before Matthew was outside the door screaming that he felt sick and would not be going to school.

As soon as I got out of the shower, Hyrum was upstairs crying that he spilled milk on his blankie.  I took him back downstairs and wiped the milk off his blankie and headed back upstairs.   It's picture day and while I didn't send money to get school photos, I thought they still might take my kids pictures so I still tried to make them look nice.  Kennedy put on a very cute purple dress with leggings and white tennis shoes.  I talked her into bringing the new brown dress shoes to switch into, but we'll see if she really does.  I was just glad she wore the purple dress because after she put it on, she decided she didn't like purple and luckily I distracted her by doing her hair and I think she forgot that she hated it.    In the middle of fixing her hair, Hyrum had joined Matthew upstairs, who had reluctantly put some clothes on.  They were playing with some hot wheels and I was so relieved that Matt had stopped whining for a second.  Then Hyrum chucked a car at Matthew and Matt was down on the floor screaming and crying.  I stuck Hyrum in a time out and tried to console Matthew.  Now he was screaming that he couldn't go to school because he was hurt.   I ignored him and went to finish Kennedy's hair.

I got Hyrum dressed, we loaded up the lunches and backpacks and headed out the door.   Hyrum grabbed Matthew's Lightening McQueen car to bring and of course Matthew tried to take it back which ensued another fight with weeping and wailing.  As we started walking, I realized I hadn't helped Kennedy study her spelling words this week.  We have been flying by the seat of our pants the past few weeks and it's getting a little old.  So, while walking to school I was trying to quiz her on her spelling while the boys are fighting over the dumb car.    Matthew would stop every 20 feet and say he wasn't going to school.  I kept telling him that he had the brown snack (teddy grahams) for brown day so he had to go.

Eventually we made it on the school grounds and Matt handed his backpack to Hyrum and told him that he could go to first grade and say he's Matthew.  Hyrum looked thrilled at the prospect, but being the mean mom that I am, I snatched the back pack just as the bell rang and dragged Matthew over to his class after giving Kennedy a quick kiss and sending her on her way.     Matt stood in line saying that he was not going to school. Luckily his teacher came out and overheard me saying that he should show her the other tooth he lost.  She came over and I quickly stuck the backpack on him and they went inside.   PHEW.   I do not like mornings like these, but they do happen and usually we survive.  There you go....the reality.
