Our Weekend in a Nutshell

Weekends always go to fast for me. This last weekend was very eventful and fun. Friday night we went to a wedding reception for Logan Abbott. We were able to see his parents, who were our neighbors in Mesquite. It was so good to see them. We really grew to love the Abbotts like family and miss them so much.

I can still remember the first time I met them. Layne had left Vegas earlier than me with Kennedy in the moving truck. I had to stop by the bank. I couldn't have been too far behind him, but when I got to our house in Mesquite, Laren Abbott and Jerry Martinsen had almost completely unpacked the moving truck. Some lady with no shoes was sweeping my garage floor....that would be Elaine. I later learned that the Abbotts just don't wear shoes unless they HAVE to. Later, Laren brought me a small fridge that he had borrowed from the RS President as we didn't have one yet. They were always watching out for us and taking care of us. Many an afternoon when Layne wasn't home from work yet, I would mosey over to the Abbott's to sit on the porch and have a much needed visit with another adult. Layne and I agree that we are better people for having known them. Plus, they have a ton of animals and my kids LOVED going to their house to see them all. I was trying to help the kids remember the Abbotts and telling them that they had a lot of pets. On the way to the reception Matt said, "Are they bringing all of their animals tonight?" I told him it would just be them. Kennedy said, "Don't you think they'll just bring one cat?" Kids are so funny.

Saturday morning we took the kids to the Egyptian Exhibit at the museum. They were interested in the Egyptian displays for about 10 minutes. Luckily this museum has a great playroom for exploring. They spent their time trying on pioneer/Indian costumes and crawling through caves while Layne and I took turns looking at the exhibits. It was fun. It was the first time we had to pay for Kennedy....weird.

Saturday afternoon I met some friends for lunch to celebrate one of my friends birthdays. It was a nice break. Short, but nice.

Saturday night Layne and I went on a date..........we went Christmas shopping. I think kids are sooo easy to shop for. It's easy to see why parents go totally overboard. Kids will LOVE just about anything you get them and there's so much to choose from. Afterwards we went to Shari's for hot chocolate. There was a Shari's in Twin Falls that we went to and had hot chocolate when we were first dating and Layne swears that that's where we fell in love. I just remember that we had a great time, laughed a lot and enjoyed each other's company. (We had a new babysitter and she was disappointed that the kids were pretty much ready to head to bed when she got there. I'm going to have to have her when they are awake!)

I whipped up these Christmas cards for my card club......it was this morning, but I didn't know that until last night and couldn't go anyway because of Kennedy's dance class.

These name frames are from a Super Saturday in my mom's ward. I finally finished them a few weeks ago. They were super simple and I think they look nice.

All-in-all it was a fun weekend, minus Hyrum being sick. He is on the mend. I'm excited for this week with Thanksgiving and all. It's nice to have a change.
