Poor Little Hyrum

All of the kids have been sick this week. Kennedy's ear is feeling better, Mattie's cough isn't so bad...now Hyrum has been the one who sounds HORRIBLE. He had a runny nose for 5 days straight and I mean I must have wiped it every 5 minutes! Then he started sounding raspy so we started giving him the nebulizer.
Last night I thought he was feeling better because he was eating more and drinking more and he hasn't had a fever, but when I went to lay him down to sleep, he sounded so bad when he breathed and he was taking rapid breaths. All night I kept checking on him. I get so nervous when kids get like that. Anyway, I finally took him into the doctor today. It started out like all my other doctors appointments.....the doctor looks at me like I am a way over-worried mom and says it's probably just a virus, maybe croup. But when the doctor started listening to him with his stethoscope he looked concerned. He said that he wasn't just raspy in his throat like croup, he was raspy ALL through his chest. Thank you , I'm not crazy after all.
He decided to do an oxygen level test and he was at 87%. The doctor's exact words were, "Well, he's bad, but we won't put him in the hospital yet." AAAGGGHHHH. He gave him a steroid on the spot, sent two home and we have to go back in tomorrow afternoon to check his oxygen levels again. He never did say how low it would have to be to hospitalized, but I think Hyrum is on the mend. He really hasn't been fussy or anything, but you can tell he's not himself. When I've put him to bed lately, he doesn't even put up a little bit of a fight. He just lays there. It's kind of sad. I'm sure he'll get better and be back to his sweet, happy, energetic self soon.

Along with being sooo sick, he has cut one molar, two eye teeth and has 3 more molars creeping up! Poor guy!

In spite of all this, he has started saying "Uh ah"..when he drops something. He will also clasp his little hands together when we tell him to fold his arms for prayer. What a doll.

Your poor little Hyrum! It is so sad when they are so listless! It's hard when you feel so helpless to help them feel better, I hope he gets better soon, for him and for you!

Mel, I was afraid that the kids were getting worse. Little Hyrum is such a good natured baby that he could be deathly ill and you never know it. Layne was just like that! When he was a teen we made him go to the Dr. because he just wasn't up to par. When the Dr. looked at him he insisted on checking his blood and found that he didn't have any, ( at least not as much as he should). They wouldn't even let him walk out. He was put in a wheel chair and immediately admitted to the hospital. There he had to recieve several pints of blood. Have him tell you the story.
You take care of you, too. love, mom

Poor little man! One good thing is that he will actually sleep for you, and not fuss over that. Sick children makes life just has hard and miserable for mom too. Hang in there and hope he continues to get better!
