Wow, life has seemed very busy lately...here are some random things that have been going on at our house.....last week I bought myself a Kitchen Aid...I got the Professional 600. I had my friend, Johanna come with me and I have to say it was rather fun to have someone with me to pick it out. I chose cherry red and was all excited to use it. The box said it had "14 cup flour power". I decided to make my wheat bread recipe that only calls for 7 cups of wheat flour. Things seemed to be going well, I added one cup of flour at a time, kept it at speed 2 and about the time I thought my dough was looking pretty good, my machine started smelling funny. I assumed it was because it was new so I kept kneading. About a minute later, the machine turned itself off and there was SMOKE coming out the back of it!!! AAGGGHHH!! I was mortified. I called Kitchen Aid and they are sending me a replacement just in case....it still works, but I'm scared that there has been some damage to the motor. After reading the recipe book, I saw that you can do 14 cups of white flour, but only 8 cups of wheat flour.....so I wasn't above the limit, but I won't be able to double my wheat bread recipe!! However, my bread turned out PERFECT!
Right after my Kitchen Aid started on fire (okay, I didn't really see flames), I was changing Hyrum's diaper and noticed some big red welt looking things. I decided to NOT freak out (I know, amazing!) and see how it was in the morning. Well, Saturday morning, he was covered from head to toe in large red hives (they looked more like welts). He was taking amoxicillin for an ear infection and I guessed that he was allergic but of course we had to take him to the doctor to confirm that. So, now Kennedy and Hyrum are allergic to amoxicillin!! That would explain Hyrum's disgusting, green, snotty nose all last week too. Poor guy.
One good thing did happen this last week.....I finished the quilt top for Kennedy's quilt!! Now, it will probably only take me another 4 years to put the back on, quilt it and bind it. This is my first real quilt....thus I have NO clue how to hand-quilt it, but for some reason, I'd like to try. Anyway, this first photo is so you can see the little stars in the sash! (Not so you can notice that the seams don't exactly line up...there are LOTS of flaws, but I learned a lot.)

Wow!!!!!!!!!
Mel,I'm amazed that you would even attempt such a challenging pattern for your first attempt at a full size quilt. Kudos to you, girl. It looks great. And don't worry about any pieces that you think aren't perfect. When it is quilted you will be suprised at what will be disguised. It looks wonderful to me. I'll bet Kennedy is thrilled. Judy
Hey Melanie. Cute family!! This is Jeremey. Ben's friend from High School. Remember those good old Johnny B Goode's days? .... I'm trying to contact Ben, haven't talked to him in awhile (too long). I couldn't find a blog for him (just yours & Josh's. I hope you don't mind) and I don't have email or phone # for him either.

Hahahah, I love you. But yes...using a Kitchen Aid to make homemade wheat bread and sewing a quilt all in one blog post is definite Molly material. Oliver had the same red pokadot reaction to amoxicillin. It didn't seem to both him, so we finished the few days of medicine. It does look scary though!
Melanie I love the quilt top and it doesn't matter how long it took to make it. It looks amazing.

Super impressive quilt, so much more than I could ever try to accomplish! :)
as far as your kitchenaid....yikes! Good thing they are sending you a replacement! That's why I have to by stufflike that at costco, I know I can just return it if someting like that goes wrong! Hope it doesn't "catch on fire" again!
