Haircuts and Head Wounds

Layne needed to cut Matthew's hair......so I decided it was finally time for Hyrum to get his first hair cut. I was hesitant because when Hyrum had been waking up from his naps, his little head would get sweaty and the long hair in the back would curl a little...too cute. On the other hand, most of the time, he looked like he had a mullet, so off with the hair.
I know, everyone thinks Hyrum is still bald, but look at all of that fine baby hair.

Isn't he so cute?

Here's Matthew's head today after his traumatic accident yesterday afternoon. It went something like this: I was tired and trying to figure out what in the world to fix for dinner. Hyrum was tired and wondering when in the world I'd figure out what I'd fix for dinner and feed him already! So, I took the kids out on the driveway to distract Hyrum with his most favorite activity of riding his big wheel.
The kids were just riding their bikes around the driveway (seriously, we had only been outside 5 minutes at the most) so I hadn't had them put on their bike helmets....oops. Well, I'm watching Hyrum and making sure that he doesn't jet into the street - a favorite pastime and suddenly I look up and there is speed demon Matthew zooming down our neighbors driveway. He turns and stays on the sidewalk, but he's right on the edge, then he proceeds to tip over. It was like watching it in slow motion, I couldn't get to him fast enough. I watched his shoulder hit the ground and then I HEARD his head hit the pavement (not a good sound). He immediately starts bawling and I ran over and picked him up. His head was already dripping blood. Matthew reached up to touch his head and then saw the blood covering his hand. He was screaming, "I need to go to the doctor, I need to go to the doctor!" I carried him inside leaving a trail of blood behind me and yelling for Kennedy to watch Hyrum.
I took Matthew inside to wash him up, but when he saw himself in the mirror (a bloody mess by now) he started screaming, "I should have worn my crash helmet and my crash gloves!" I, amazingly, stayed calm, washed his head and could see that he had a nice gash, but not to deep. So, I laid him down and brought the other kids in. Matthew was so cute. I went and sat by him and he said, "Mom, I think I need to pray." So he did. Then Layne got home, looked at the cut and decided all he needed was a butterfly bandage. He took Matt with him to the store so he could buy what he needed and doctor him up ASAP.
Enter Kennedy. She was sooo worried about her little brother. She kept saying, "Mom, is Matt going to be okay?" I told her he would be just fine and then she said, "I did pray for him up in the look-out tower." Sweet. I guess my kids are learning something in spite of my imperfections.
I think it's funny.......Matt has had so many "cry wolf" bandages on his head that people have asked about and we say, "he just really wanted a band aid" that no one has really asked about his head and he finally has a good story to tell!

I love watching your kids get bigger... they are so cute! You've had a rough year with illness and injury, lets hope you've paid your dues and you'll get a break for awhile!

Mathew looks so happy to have his BandAid. You must of read the same article in a magazine as my cousin did, both of my boys made a shirt last summer that looks almost identical to the one that Mathew has on, crazy. Good to see that you are surviving the summer thus far. Take care.
