A First (or Second) Time for Everything

Yesterday Layne took me on my first official Down Hill Ski Trip.  I am not going to count a ski trip that some friends took me on right out of high school as my first - I went down the bunny hill once and then was taken to the tip top of a black diamond trail.  Let's just say it took me the entire day to get down the hill and I was not ever wanting to try skiing again.

Layne took me to Pomerelle and it was absolutely gorgeous.  Much to my (and Layne's) surprise, I did pretty good.  We went on at least 8 or 9 runs and I had at least 4 runs where I didn't crash at all.  By the end of the day, I was really getting the feel for it and wasn't too nervous at all....the only part of skiing that makes me nervous is the blasted ski lifts.  I hate them.  I would like the chair to stop for a full minute while I carefully get on, get situated and feel like I won't fall out.  Then when they unload, I'd really like them to stop my chair and help me off, letting me take my time.  I think I fell twice getting off the lift!!  A few times, I stood up prematurely and the chair bumped into me and scooped me up so I had to jump up again.  All in all it was a great day.  Now Layne thinks we can take Kennedy and Matthew with us......well the kids will have to fend for themselves on the lift, I can barely get on and off myself.

I HATE the ski lift! I always think the guy running the lift is just laughing at us as we fall down getting off. I totally get anxiety when it is time to get off. Good job skiing!

Marcus took me snowboarding once, I think that was the last time I will do that or ski! The stupid lifts scared the heck out of me too!

Good Job Mel!!! I am so proud :) I want to be that "cool" wife that goes and skiis with my husband, but we tried that on our anniversary and its just amazing we were friends by the end! I am in need of lessons if I EVER attempt to go again! So I am jealous at all those COOL wives that get to play in the snow with their hubbys.
