Dinner Conversation

Layne:       "So, you guys want to learn how to play the piano?  Cause Mom says we're buying a piano and you  have to learn how to play."

Kennedy:     "No....I already know how to play the piano."

Matt:  "No way, I am not doing that."

Me:  "That's fine.  You can take voice lessons instead."

Matt:  "I'm not doing that."

Kennedy:  "Mom, we already know how to sing."

Me:  "Well, voice lessons will help you be better and teach you how to read music.   Besides, piano lessons will be fun and I'll keep a jar of candy on top of the piano and for every 20 minutes you practice, you can have a piece."

Matt and Kennedy (in unison):  "Okay, we'll learn the piano!"

Layne:  "You are NOT doing that.  You are not keeping a jar of candy out in the open.  That is a bad idea."

Me:  "Fine, I'll keep the candy somewhere safe and you can earn it."

Hyrum (screaming):  "NO!  KEEP THE CANDY IN THE OPEN!!"

Matthew:  "I have a bad feeling that Hyrum would try to eat all of the candy."

Then Hyrum gets some food stuck in his teeth and opens big to show me.

Matthew:   "Don't you love how nicely spaced Hyrum's teeth are?"

Me:  "Yes, he has very nice teeth."

Matthew:  "Calyn's are evenly spaced too."

Me:  "You noticed her teeth?"

Matthew (rolling his eyes):  "Ya, everyday at school when she smiles."

Later....
Hyrum:  "When I grow up, I'm gonna be a big dad."

Layne:  "That's right."

Hyrum (looking at me):  "Wait a minute, I want to be just like you when I grow up.  I want to be a MOM."

Me:  "Well, you're a boy, so you get to be a dad when you grow up."

Hyrum:  "I am gonna choose to be a mom."

Me:  "If you're a dad you get to play with the kids and throw them in the air."

Hyrum (grinning from ear to ear):  "Ya, I'm gonna be the dad!"
