Getting Kennedy moving after missing 4 days of school was a bit of a challenge. I was being the nagging mom and trying not to get frustrated with her and also get myself and the boys ready so we could drop Kennedy off at school and head straight to the grocery store. While attempting to get Kennedy to brush her teeth, I turned around to see Hyrum waving the toilet scrubber around like a sword. I was not amused. I noticed that Kennedy's lips looked really dry so I put some cherry chapstick on them.
I got everyone ready and was just about to throw them all in the car when Kennedy says, "Mom, I have a fat lip." Sure enough her top lip was huge! I asked if she had fallen on something and she said she hadn't. I started wondering if she was allergic to the chapstick, so I had her wash her lips and put ice on them. Still, they were pretty swollen, but she couldn't miss ANOTHER day of school, so off we went.
We dropped Kennedy off (with me slightly worried about her) and headed to WinCo. When grocery shopping, I always stick Hyrum in the front of the cart so I can be faster. He fights me tooth and nail and wants to be big like Matthew and walk. Usually with a little man power and some fruit snacks, I can coerce him into sitting in the front of the cart. Well, yesterday, I just didn't have it in me. I lifted his 30 pound body up, he straightened his legs and I just didn't have the stamina to follow through. I gave in, I let him walk and I STILL gave him his snacks. He proudly walked 3 feet behind us the entire time munching his fruit snacks with a smirk on his face and getting a smile out of everyone we passed. The good news? It was 8:30 in the morning, hardly anyone was shopping so it wasn't too big of a deal and he did stay by us the whole time.
We got home, unloaded the groceries and I attempted to get the kitchen cleaned so I could mop the floor. In between changing a diaper, finding a missing toy and making a new trail lmix recipe, I got most of the dishes out of the way and started dinner in the crockpot. At 10:45 I loaded the boys up to go get Kennedy. When she came out of school, her lip looked a little better so I figured it was just a reaction to the chapstick. However, when she got in the car she said her hands and feet were itching like crazy and maybe she needed some lotion on them.
When we got in the house I had her show me her hands. Um....I couldn't recognize them as little Kennedy's hands. They were a bit pink, but they were HUGE swollen.....they looked REALLY chubby and Kennedy does NOT have chubby hands in the least. Her feet were the same way. I panicked and called Layne. Good thing Layne does NOT get excited easily. He said she was probably allergic to the antibiotics she's on right now. Ah ha. Yes, she's been on them for 4 days and she did have a few inexplicable pink splotches on her face the other day. I called the doctor and she is most likely allergic to Omnicef. The bad news is that she is already allergic to amoxicillin. Geez what are they going to be able to give this kid? What's weird is she has had Omnicef before and never had a reaction.
I was trying to figure out what to make the kids for lunch and I knew Hyrum was hungry. I handed him a bowl of my delicious trail mix to tide him over until lunch and he proceded to dump it all over the floor. Hyrum got his first time out. I got the kids some lunch and decided my mopping and curtains would have to wait until later as I was really anticipating NAP time at this point. However, I had moved the chairs into the front room so I could mop. When Layne came home from lunch he mentioned to the kids that they could probably make a really great fort with the chairs. While I was cleaning up lunch, Kennedy and Matt got out pretty much every blanket we own and started building a fort with the chairs and blankets. I let them listen to their stories from inside the fort, got Hyrum in his bed, got Matt in his bed, told Kennedy she could rest in the fort if she was really quiet and I climbed in my soft, warm, snuggly bed. I was just falling asleep when I hear loud laughing and screeching downstairs. Matt had gotten out of bed and joined Kennedy in the fort. Let's just say I did NOT get my much needed nap and Hyrum's nap ended prematurely.
Since I was awake, I decided that I should work on my curtains or they would NEVER get hung. I got out my fancy new electric staple gun that Layne bought me. I would just get up the nerve to staple when one of the kids would be hanging on me or fighting. My mom called right about this time and I'm sure all she could hear was Hyrum whining and Matthew and Kennedy quarreling. I think she could tell I was frustrated and I was! The thing with Kennedy and Matt is that they are fine when isolated. One is the vinegar and the other is the baking soda.......as soon as they get together, there is an explosive chemical reaction. Complete craziness! It always starts with fun and giggling and before long they are wrestling and then full on fighting!! When Matt doesn't have a nap it is all the worse. Anyway, I decided that using an electric staple gun on little sleep with 3 crazy kids running around was not one of my better ideas, so I decided to get my mopping done. I was really looking forward to using my steam cleaner (it sounded like less work than actually exerting physical strength to push the mop back and forth) so I went down to the basement to get it. Layne and I have locked the doors in the basement so the kids won't jump on the beds and get into the storage stuff down there. Well, I tried the good old nail trick to unlock the door, but it didn't work. So, I would have to wait until Layne got home to mop.
Enter: Layne!! HOORAY. With another adult around, even if he wasn't really supervising the children, I felt like I could attempt using the staple gun. Within 40 minutes, my swag for my curtains was complete (photos to follow). YAY!
We wolfed down our crockpot dinner (which was pretty yummy....recipe to follow) and I headed out the door to take some of that dinner to a sister I visit teach (her little boy just got out of the hospital with pnuemonia). It was a welcome break to get out of my house and thinking about someone besides myself. AND when I got home my sweet husband had cleaned up the table, swept and brought up my steam cleaner for me AND hung my curtains!! Yes, he deserves a raise!!
To end the day, Layne helpe me get the kiddos in bed and I, myself, the Grinch, mopped my floor.
