Hyrum had a nap before we headed to the rink. Matthew was the one whining that he wasn't going to skate. We got Kennedy onto the ice and then I told the boys I would be skating with them. Matthew decided he would skate and plus he got black ice skates which made him VERY happy and not feel like such a "sissy". I went to rent some skates and the lady told me that I'd need to pay a $5 admission fee along with my rental fee. What? Are you kidding me? I very politely told her that I was very frustrated with the idea to allow 2 and 3-year-olds to enroll in classes when they can't accommodate them and explained that I was only going out on the ice to help my 3-year-old get on the ice. I think she caught the drift that I wasn't going to go enjoy an hour of skating in solitude. She decided to let me just pay the rental fee.....but didn't make it sound like she'd ever do it again. Now I've got to call the management and explain that I don't really feel like after paying $50 just for Hyrum's lessons/rentals I should have to pay an admission fee to go out on the ice....heck, I don't feel like I should even have to pay for renting skates.....I'm not the one that didn't get enough teachers for the class!!
Anyway, the boys and I skated around and Hyrum actually did pretty good. He held onto me the entire time, but he wasn't HANGING on me. When it was time for his lesson, I was thrilled because he wanted to go to his teacher. Unfortunately there was only ONE teacher that day, so I had to stay with him and help him anyway. I haven't had a chance to call management, but I will. If anything, they need to know that maybe tiny children shouldn't be allowed to enroll if they can't accommodate them. I just don't want another poor, unsuspecting mom like myself to go through this same fiasco.
Day 6
I called Parks and Rec. and explained that I wasn't very keen on the idea of paying an admission fee AND renting skates just to go help my kid on the ice (who should have a teacher helping him). They were fine with me not paying an admission fee, but I still have to pay to rent my skates.
Hyrum had a nap on Day 6 so he actually did pretty good, but he got bored halfway through and wanted off the ice, then back on the ice, etc. I'm really looking forward to the end of ice skating lessons. No photos.
