Hyrum is One!

I really can't believe that Hyrum turned one on Saturday. I had been counting down to his first birthday since he was 8 months old because I get sort of antsy to wean my kids to cow's milk. But, towards the middle of November he was really sick, vomiting, diarrhea, wheezing and coughing and he didn't want to start weaning. Then when he finally felt better, I didn't want to wean him. I had to force myself to let him go to bed tonight without nursing because I won't be around three nights this week and Layne has to put him to bed, so I figured I'd better start somewhere.

Hyrum is been such a sweet-natured, pleasant, happy baby from the beginning. He is such a good boy. I think he had a fun birthday and knew that something was different. He was very interested in the large gift we brought over and encouraged him to rip open (we got him a big TONKA truck that he can push and once he gets older, he can ride it). He loved the balloons, he didn't like the lights out and the candle lit on the cake, but he DID enjoy eating the cake.

I took him to his one-year check-up this morning and he only weighs 22lbs. 8 oz. which is less than what he weighed at his 9 month appointment. The doctor wants to weigh him again in 3 weeks and make sure he's not still losing. I'm sure it's just from him being sick this last month. He's eating more like himself again lately.

He is doing good and the day after his birthday, he crawled over to the top of the stairs like he always does. I watched him just to see what he would do, then he surprised me by turning around and sticking his little feet first and sliding down! HOORAY. I've never had to teach a baby to go down stairs, as we never had stairs in our other home, and he finally got it!!
