Halloween Costumes

MUSKATEER (from Barbie and the 3 Muskateers)
Kennedy had a love/hate relationship with this costume.  She LOVED the dress, but HATED that I made her wear a coat when we went trunk-or-treating.  She LOVED the look of the boot covers, but HATED how they felt.  We had some major problems with the danged boot covers a few weeks ago while we were getting ready for the Halloween Carnival.  Finally, Layne ended up hot gluing the boot covers to her real boots so they would stay on.  Kennedy was disappointed that no one went out of their way to say what a great costume she had..........because EVERYONE commented on her brothers' costumes!!  Oh well.  I liked the material I used for this dress because it didn't fray so I didn't even hem the bottom.

The CUTEST JELLYFISH EVER

This was actually a pretty easy costume to make.  It's a sombrero with bubble wrap and fabric over it, then ribbons hangin down.  I did add lights under the fabric.....you can sort of see them in the photo above.  I had no idea it took 2 D batteries to light up 8 little lights.  The costume turned out to be a bit heavy as I had to put 2 more D batteries on the other side to counter balance the thing.  Matt did not wear this to the carnival and I just about cried, but he wore it to school and Trunk-or-Treating and EVERYONE commented on the originality of it.  I think it was fitting for Matthew......completely out of the ordinary and something no one else would be wearing.

KING OF THE JUNGLE

Hyrum told me a few months ago that he wanted to be a lion and I had the pattern for one, so I'm glad he didn't change his mind.  This was actually a really fun costume to sew....a bit time consuming, but fun.  He had teenage girls drooling over how cute he was.  One of them picked him up and asked if he was a lion.  Hyrum "ROARED" for her.  Too funny.  I was very impressed with myself for thinking to use the tops of Layne's church socks for the bands around the wrists....I did NOT want to go back to the fabric store again and try to find ribbing.  Luckily Layne has LOTS of church socks so he didn't mind too much.
