My Kids are Growing Up!

  • This is Hyrum....he took his first nap in his "big boy bed". We did have to leave the bed off of the metal frame or it made it tall enough that he could climb up into the window sill. He wouldn't just sit in the window sill either, he would STAND in it. Plus with the bed too high, he could get off of it, but he couldn't get back on it. Needless to say, the first night he was in it with the frame on, it didn't go so well and he ended up back in his crib. We'll see how it goes. Lots of people think 18 months is too young to switch them to a big bed....but I like to switch them before they can open the bedroom door...once they've figured out the door you can't even confine them in the room. Plus, I'd give Hyrum another 3 weeks before he'd be trying to dangerously climb out of the crib anyway.
  • I feel like Kennedy is learning so many new things lately...she can completely start off and ride her bike on her own now. She is practicing her writing and helping out a lot around the house. A few days a week she'll come up completely dressed and having made her bed. It really hit me that she is getting older the other day. I used to ask her if she would come and visit me when she grows up and she would always say that she will still be living with me and that she's never moving out. Well, the other day I asked her this and she said very confidently, "Sure, I'll come visit you." I asked if she would invite me to her house when she was all grown up and she said, "Ya, I'll invite you to my birthday and I'll make a big fancy cake." Tear. She thinks it's fine to move out now? I'm kidding....I really would be nervous if she never did leave home, but it always melted my heart when she would say that she wanted to live with me forever.
  • Matthew has hit a REAL milestone (at least in my book). He no longer completely freaks out and changes his clothes every time he gets a drop of water on them!! HOORAY! This morning when he went down the slide and got his pants wet he started getting a little upset. I told him to go put new pants on and he said, "It's okay. I'll just let them dry." To many of you, this is not a big deal, but after several screaming outbursts and 5 random outfits strewn throughout the house daily, this is BIG.
